The US Social Forum - Another World is Possible

June 27 - July 1 in Atlanta, Georgia

As
many as 20,000 people are expected at the social forum. It is a coming together of people who bellieve that another world - a better world - is possible. You should be a part of it!

The Green Institute is hosting three panel sessions at the US Social Forum and is a lead co-sponsor of the Democracy Tent. Please plan to visit this venue to learn about efforts to broaden democracy at all levels. It will be one of the large 40 x 40 foot tents locations at the Scitrek/Exhibition Hall Parking Lot.

The three sessions we are sponsoring are:

Colonialism Within the United States - A panel discussion regarding colonized peoples within the United States. Panelists include:

Elaine Brown, former Chair of the Black Panther Party and candidate or Mayor of Brunswick, Georgia last year

Audrey Thayer, a member of the Anishinabe nation in northern Minnesota and director of the ACLU Racial Justice Project in northern Minnesota

Dr. Jared Ball, Green Institute Communications Fellow and Professor of Communications Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore

Tom Goldtooth, of the Indigenous Environmental Network

Jared Wilken is a staff member of the Democracy Unlimited Humboldt County steering committee

This event will be at 3:30 pm on Thursday, June 28 in Room 1404 of the Westin Hotel

 

The N-Word Forum - a viewing of a documentary and a discussion of the use of the word, particularly within Hip hop, led by Green Institute Communications Fellow Dr. Jared Ball, with a special performance by Head-Roc.

This event will be at 3:30 pm on Friday, June 29 at the Library Room in the Trinity United Methodist Church
