The Green Institute is proud to announce that we have commissioned community organizer, journalist and Hip-Hop activist Rosa Clemente to write a series of four articles for the Green Institute. The first article will address Women of Color in positions of Leadership, and three other articles will follow on the first of the month.

Born and raised in the South Bronx she is a graduate of the University of Albany and Cornell University. A much sought after commentator, political activist, community organize and independent reporter, Rosa has been delivering workshops, presentations and commentary for over ten years. Dr. Jared A. Ball - Communications Fellow

Jared Ball is an assistant professor of communications studies at Morgan State University. He is editor-at-large of the Journal of Hip-Hop and Global Culture from Words, Beats and Life and hosts Jazz & Justice Mondays 1-3p EST on DC's WPFW 89.3 FM Pacifica Radio. Ball is also the founder and creator of FreeMix Radio: The Original Mixtape Radio Show, a hip-hop mixtape committed to the practice of underground emancipatory journalism. Tom Baugh - Interdisciplinary Fellow (and formerly Science Fellow)

In addition to 30 years experience in science information, natural resource management, and conservation biology with two federal agencies and one university, Tom Baugh is also a multidisciplinary professional with graduate education and degrees in biology/ecology and religion/theology and an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis of subjects and issues at the intersection of religion/environment/and politics-governance. Tom is a referee for the Political Religions Section of the online journal ‘Religion Compass’ and is President of the Religion and Conservation Biology Working Group of the Society for Conservation Biology. He is a member of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, the Society for Conservation Biology, the American Academy of Religion, the Forum on Religion and Ecology and the Society for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture. In addition, Tom is a member of the World Conservation Union IUCN.

Charlene Spretnak, Research Fellow

Charlene Spretnak is an internationally known theorist and activist of the Green Politics movement. She has written several books on the eco-social analysis and vision, including Green Politics: The Global Promise (1984), The Spiritual Dimension of Green Politics (1986), The Resurgence of the Real: Body, Nature, and Place in a Hypermodern World (1997). She was a co-founder, in 1984, of the Green Politics network that later became the Green Party of the United States. Through her books, articles, op-ed pieces, and presentations at conferences here and abroad, she has articulated the evolving Green perspective in numerous issue areas. In 2006 the British government's Environment Agency named Charlene Spretnak to an international list of "the 100 people of all time who have done the most to help save the environment. Frans C. Verhagen, M. Div., M.I.A., Ph.D, Sustainability Fellow

Frans Verhagen is an sustainability sociologist. His specialization is in sustainability education as director of sustainability research and education at Earth and Peace Education Associates international (EPE) in New York City. (www.globalepe.org). Since founding the first New York State Green Party local in 1989, he has been writing and organizing around sustainable aviation matters. He has been the president of the metro NY citizen sustainable aviation movement (www.metronyaviation.org) for the last ten years and president of the national movement for the last three years. Global Greens 2008

In May of this year, Greens from all over the world met for the second Global Greens Gathering in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The objectives were to:
  • promote the Global Green Charter among the Green Parties of the world, as
    well as kindred groups and society at-large;
  • stimulate and facilitate action on matters of global consequence; and
  • deepen communication among Green Parties and Federations everywhere
