Green Institute Sponsors Discussion of DC Schools


On May 24, 2006, the Green Institute sponsored a discussion of DC schools at the Busboys
and Poets restaurant at 14th and V streets from noon to 2pm. Leading
the discussion were Darlene Allen, President of the DC PTA and Marc
Borbely, an ANC representative who led the successful school
modernization funding effort.

Elections and Democracy


Green Institute and Program on Law and Government of the Washington
College of Law, American University co-sponsor a panel discussion
entitled "The Corporate Impact on Elections and Democracy in America",
Wednesday, October 4 on the Washington College of Law Campus at 4801
Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC.

A New Orleans Situation in Every U.S. City


It took
Hurricane Katrina to break through the layers of spin the Bush
administration has manufactured for five years to obscure the dangerous
effects of its policy directions. Americans may think that the tragic
situation in New Orleans is singular because the city was built in a
shallow basin surrounded by bodies of water, but the four major causes
of that crisis are also in place now in nearly every U.S. city.

White Earth Land Recovery Project


Dean Myerson,
Green Institute Executive Director, met with Winona LaDuke of the White
Earth Land Recovery Project, as well as with staff of the project and
the White Earth Tribal Government, on August 8, 2005. They discussed
ways in which the Green Institute could support their desire to
exercise more sovereignty over their tribal land via legal research.
Issues covered included over-development on the many lakes in the area
for resorts or vacation homes and regulation or banning of genetically
modified crops.
