political party. Straight-ticket voting originated to simplify the

unconstitutional portions of the Patriot Act, on January 7, 2002. As
awareness of its impact on civil liberties spread, other cities joined
in, and on January 15, 2003, my home city, Arcata, Calif. became the

Patriot Act.
